Black & White
Today was black and white day at Mother's Day Out. And, today was Jack's snack day which means...he's the line leader! Big deal in 4-year-old world. That only happens 3-4 times a year. So, he wore a black shirt, brought his white milk and oreos, and had one huge smile on his face walking into the church. We even prayed last night, before he went to bed, that he would be a good line leader. He was SO excited! I LOVE that this is the big deal right now in the life of Jack. I'm soaking it all in. Enjoying every minute of it, trying not to let it pass by too quickly.

A Bit of Sad News
I have just a little bit of sad news to share. Two Wednesday nights ago, Jack and I were leaving for church and we heard a funny buzzing sound coming from our garage. I opened the door from the laundry room to the garage and heard it again. A little more clearly now. So, figuring it was just a wasp or something, I told Jack to run to the car door and jump in quickly. He walked about 2 steps and froze. He wouldn't move a muscle. I looked up toward the buzzing sound and saw a little tiny hummingbird flying up on the ceiling. He was drawn to the florescent light like a mosquito. We tried to move him outside, but he wouldn't move. It was getting closer and closer to 6:00, and we had to leave for church. So, I thought I'd leave him until Jon got home from church a few hours later. When we pulled into the driveway, I opened the garage door. No bird. Not anywhere. I figured he must have flown out as soon as I opened the door. I didn't think anymore about that little bird. Until Friday. Friday, Elin came over to play for the day. (I had really good intentions on posting pictures of the two of them, but neither Jack nor Elin stay still long enough to get a picture, especially together.) Jack, Elin, and I decided to go outside to play for just a little while before the rain. Jack wanted to play basketball and Elin went straight to the little motorized Jeep. I went over to help Elin into the Jeep and that's when I found it. The little hummingbird. Dead as a doornail. And stiff. So, I did what any girl would do. I left it for Jon to deal with when he came home. He just happened to come home for lunch that day. So, he and Jack grabbed shovels and off they went. They scooped up the little birdie and threw him into the empty lot next to us. No. They chunked him, and this is the way he landed. Beak down. I told you he was stiff. Jon said he looked just like a lawn dart. Poor little thing.
8 Days?
It just occurred to me that I think it may only be 7 days until the beach. If I count starting tomorrow, of course, since it's so late already in the day, I believe I only count 7. So, the new count today? 7 Days.

Spicy, sour....and blue, too
Tonight, I was getting Jack ready for bed and I put toothpaste on his toothbrush. I gave him his toothbrush to start brushing. He put the toothbrush in his mouth and said, "What kind of toothpaste is this? It's spicy and sour ... and blue! Is this Crest? I really like Co-gate more."
11 Days!!!
One of the classic beach pictures. Jon spotted this man in the background with no pants on, so he made his sister "pose" for the picture, just to get this man in the background. We're still laughing about this one.

Poppy's a Celebrity!
This entry was stolen straight off my sister's blog. :)
Poppy was interviewed by the Gosport, the Pensacola military news publication about his experiences thus far in Afghanistan. He was also interviewed by Fox News which will be broadcast on 600 radio stations at a later date.

Got Milk?
Well, Kroger did not. At least the kind I buy which is the 1/2 gallon carton of organic milk. I was in the natural foods section of Kroger, and I asked a man (older meat-and-potatoes man) stocking groceries if there was any more milk as I was pointing to the label of the milk that was gone. He said, "That ain't milk." Alright, well, I thought, he must think I'm pointing to the soy milk or something else. I said, "No, this Horizon organic milk." He said, a little louder this time, "I said it ain't milk." Now, I realized he was getting just a little ugly. I said, "Yes it is." And, once again, "No...it ain't!" This wasn't getting me anywhere. I said, "Have you tasted it? It's really good." He said, "I ain't tasting it. It ain't milk!" I turned around went on my merry way, and as I was walking off, he said, "Hippie!" Okay. Well, there you have it. I just went to another Kroger and found it there. :)

Blast from the past
This is, and forever will be, one of my all-time FAVORITE videos of Jack. He is only 1 1/2 in this video and already, you can just see his personality.
What is time....really?
Jack is at the stage where he knows just enough about numbers and letters to almost tell time or spell something, but not quite. For example:
Jack: When are we going to the beach?
Angie: In about two weeks.
Jack: Two days?
Angie: Two weeks.
Jack: Two minutes?
Angie: No...two weeks, that's 14 days.
Jack: Two pounds?
Angie: AHHH! You have to sleep at least 14 times before we go.
So, you see, we go through this several times a day. I think he really tries to understand and throw words out there that he knows, like minutes, pounds, o'clock, and so on. So then, last night, I was trying to decide if I should put him to bed before Jon got home from his meeting. I asked him...
Angie: Jack, can you see what time it is? (Just knowing I was asking for it.)
He simply answered...
Jack: Well, it's 7, E, H.
Angie: Okay, that's 7:34.
That one brought a smile to my face. :)

Remember who birthed you
I promised I would never use that phrase, but I find it quite appropriate in this situation...
Jack: Daddy, do you know how much I love you?
Jon: How much Jack?
Jack: All the way to Mars.
Then...
Jack: Mommy, do you know how much I love you?
Angie: How much?
Jack: To the top of that tree right over there.

The Word of the Day
"Outstanding!" And even used in context.
We went to IHOP this morning for breakfast and when the waitress asked if she could get us anything else, Jack said, "No thank you, but the eggs are outstanding!" Then after dinner tonight, he wanted some lemon sorbet, and that too was just "Outstanding!"

Clean Hands, Pure Heart
Jack, sitting in the chair with Jon, just finished eating extra-cheesy goldfish...
Jon: Jack, why don't you go wash your hands?
Jack: Why? I licked my fingers AND put some "handitizer" on.
(Handitizer = Hand Sanitizer, thanks to my sister. He keeps it in his pocket at all times just in case of a handitizing emergency.)

Pray, I Can?
My mom came into town on Thursday and will stay for a week to help out with Jack during all the recordings at church. What a help!!! I couldn't participate the way I want to if it wasn't for her!!! So, last night, we went to eat pizza at Mellow Mushroom, one of our favorite places to go when Nana and Poppy come into town. We were sitting at the table, just got our pizza and...
Jon: Could you pray please Jack?
Jack: Ummm, can I pray like Yoda?

"T" is for...
A few weeks ago, my dad's interpreters saw his Tennessee hat and REALLY liked it. So, he called me and asked me to mail him two Tennessee hats. I got this email from him today:
"My two terps say "thanks". They are wearing them proudly.
It might as well been a pot of gold the way they wear them
with pride. This would be a great blog picture, that UT has
fans all over the globe."

What's that smell?
Of course I had to follow up on the lovely story Jon told last night at choir about his stinky socks. If they're left in his gym bag, golf bag, or inside his mowing shoes by the back door, they'll stink. Crunchy socks left in the trunk of his car for weeks and weeks after playing golf in the 100 degree heat are as good as gone. Throw them away. Buy new ones. So, all I can figure...
Stinky Socks = Not my Fault
End of story. :)

Voices from Above
Normally, when I walk through the grocery store or Target or just out somewhere, I never pay attention to the loudspeaker when someone is being paged. I never even hear it anymore. If there is a life-threatening emergency and I am at Wal-Mart, do not page me. I will not hear it. Call me. Text me. I'll hear that. Jack ALWAYS listens to the loudspeaker. He's riding along while I'm shopping and he'll say, "Did you hear that? Someone's oil change is done." Or, "Who is Amy? They just called her name. Is it the Amy I know? I hope she hears it!" Or, "What did they say? I didn't hear that. Mommy, what did they say? Speakers, could you please repeat that? What if they said Jack?" Or, my favorite and probably most aggrevating, when someone by the name of Jack or Angie, not us, is announced, "They called me. I need to see what they need. Speakers, what do you need? I'm listening!"
First Day of School
Last Tuesday was Jack's first day of school. New teachers, some new kids, new room. August brings lots of new changes for little people. Jack recently changed teachers and classrooms for Bible Fellowship (Sunday School), Awanas, Children's Choir, and Mother's Day Out. For a child who likes regularity and consistency, he sure hasn't gotten it for one whole month. What a trooper. Anyway, he has been asking about school since the middle of May, so he woke up ready and excited to go. I'll post a picture as soon as I get my camera back from Jon.
