Time-Out

While out in a restaurant today, Jack is misbehaving. After several warnings, I say...

Angie: Jack, do we need to go to the bathroom?

Jack: And do what?

Angie: Talk. (spoken with a stern look, or so I thought)

Jack: Oh, I'd love to go talk!

Angie: (Trying not to laugh) And get a spanking.

Jack: Well, I'd love to talk, but I don't really want the spanking.

God changes people

Jack: Mommy, did you know that God changes people?

Angie: Yes, He does.

Jack: Just like He changed Saul to Paul.

Angie: That's right!

Jack: And Anakin to Darth Vader.

Check

Everything on the list... done. Except for watching The Office, but I had actually decided to wait for Jon to watch it. I guess list-making does make you more productive and organized. I'm not sure I want to be labeled as overly organized and listy, so I'll just save the list-making efforts for significant endeavours.

Jon's Fav

This is one of Jon's favorite desserts. The recipe comes from my sister. She's one of my FAVORITE cooks. :)

Sarah's Key Lime Pie

1c graham cracker crumbs
4T butter, melted
(or use a ready-made crust)

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/3c key lime juice or lime juice (found near the alcohol, not the kind in the plastic lime bottle)
4 egg yolks

Mix graham crumbs with melted butter and press into 9” pie pan. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to 250 degrees. Mix milk and key lime juice. Add egg yolks one at a time. Pour into crust and bake for 20 minutes. Chill for several hours. Top with sweetened whip cream.

So here's the list

Jon has started making to-do lists lately at work and has been much more productive. The only time I make lists is for grocery shopping. So I'm starting a to-do list today.
1. Grocery shop
2. Drop off Goodwill stuff
3. Sort through Jack's clothes
4. Clean out guest closet
5. Buy plants for the front porch
6. Watch the last episode of the office

Last week

We took a flying trip to Pensacola last week... headed down Tuesday night and left Saturday morning, which only left us about 3 play days. We packed in the fun though. We went to the beach, ate yummy seafood, fished in PawPaw's boat, saw Big Mama's 6th graders perform an opera, and had a day-long shopping event with my mom. I would post pictures of all these fabulous events, but just realized I didn't even take my camera out of my car. Not even once. I think my mom took pictures, so I'll post hers when I get them. Did I mention that we suffered a slight sunburn? I don't know what we were thinking. We HATE to wear sunscreen. Not anything specifically about sunscreen. Just lotion in general. Oh my. Oh my. Never again. The only thing that helped? The seafood nachos, shrimp, fish, and oyster po-boy that followed soon afterwards at Flounders. Yum. :)

The newest member of our family

Well, we're still looking for him. Jack has really taken a-likin' to caterpillars lately. Every single time he sees one, he picks it up, pets it, feeds it, and then finds a big leaf in which it will then take a "nap" or lay down and not-move-a-muscle from being a little overstimulated. Today, we grabbed a quick kid's meal at Chick-fil-a and guess what the toy was? That's right, a bug jar. So on the way home, my friend Jenny and I heard all about the caterpillar he was going to catch in his jar as soon as we got home. Jenny asked him what he had named his caterpillar. His reply, "Jonathan Chance." It's been rainy on and off all day today, so we're still on the lookout for little Jonathan Chance. Maybe we'll find him tomorrow.

Baby Niece

Yay for Justin & Christi! (Jon's brother and sis-in-law) I can't believe I haven't shared the good news. We've got a new baby girl coming into the Tyner family! We're thrilled especially BECAUSE IT'S A GIRL. Christi is about 20 weeks now and is doing GREAT!

Stolen

This is stolen from my sister's blog, but I was going to write the same thing anyway. Too funny not to share. Hannah (my older niece) is doing a Flat Stanley project at school. If you're not familiar with Flat Stanley, he's the main character in the series of kids' books by the same name. He gets flattened when a bulletin board falls on him, so his parents send him on adventures around the world in an envelope because it's cheaper than airfare. Hannah chose to send her Flat Sue to Poppy in Afghanistan. Here's some of Sue's adventures:

Countries who currently have soldiers on Poppy's base (L to R): United States, United Nations (NATO), Afghanistan, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, New Zealand

Two American guards at the gate

Afghan guards at the gate
(They can barely contain their excitement).

Five Stars

My friend Kris brought me petit fours from the UT Bakery. That's how a petit four is supposed to taste.

The Ant Beds

We have these enormous ant beds in our flower beds in front of our house. They're the biggest ant beds you've ever seen. I really need to take a picture to accurately document it, but it's raining right now. Maybe tomorrow. Anyway, we finally had them professionally treated last week in fear we might lose Lucy to an ant attack during a midday stroll.
